100+ native app screens, a complete Figma design system with 87 reusable components, and custom illustrations for a fintech startup helping young Australians save and invest towards home ownership.
loOt is a financial technology startup on a mission to help the next generation of Australians grow their savings and invest towards long-term goals — like owning a home.
loOt had previously engaged an agency without experience designing native apps or financial products. As a result, their early designs lacked the structure, compliance awareness, and UX rigour needed to support complex financial user journeys.
My role
- UX Design Lead — complete user flows for onboarding, KYC, portfolio setup, and account management.
- UI Design Lead — visual identity, custom iconography, and bespoke illustrations including loOtie, the brand character.
- Design Systems — Figma design system with custom tokens, 87 reusable components, and developer handoff.
Challenge
There was no design system in place, which made it difficult for engineers to accurately build from design files. Key interface elements were missing — including hover, focus, and touch states — leading to gaps in usability and visual consistency.
The team needed designers who could work closely with engineering and build with both clarity and compliance in mind.

Design system
We built a comprehensive Figma design system from scratch — covering colour, typography, spacing, and interaction states — with tokens linking directly into the engineering workflow.


User interface
We designed and delivered over 100 native app screens covering the entire MVP — from onboarding and KYC through to portfolio setup and account management. The UI was crafted for simplicity and clarity, with a visual identity that brought warmth and personality to financial services.
